Salzman Synagogue
History of the Salzman Synagogue, Minsk - Belarus.
It was built in 1864 by the merchant Saltzman for the poor Jews of Minsk. In the 1920s, the building of the former synagogue (after the establishment of the Soviet power, all synagogues in the city was closed) was reconstructed and a second floor was added. It housed one of the first Soviet cinemas in Minsk.
During the occupation, there was a Nazi commandant’s office. Later, from 1944 to 1961, the cinema “Belarus” was located in the building, which regularly had a leak in the rain. Later it was used as a House of Pioneers, and now – the Specialized Children and Youth School of the Olympic Reserve No. 11 in chess and drafts.
