Along the path of the Jewish shtetl
Recently, in July the Jewish Tour Agency has arranged a fun and quite an informative trip to the cities and towns of Belarus for children of 10-12 years old.
We called this tourist trip “Along the path of the Jewish shtetl.” Wonder why?
During the trip, our young tourists managed to visit one of the most interesting and well-preserved Jewish places in Belarus. Trip included: 4 busy days, 7 cities (Slonim, Brest, Lenin, Motyl, Pruzhany, Ruzhany and Turov), many guided walks and fascinating stories.
In Slonim we visited one of the oldest synagogues in Belarus and visited the grave of the Slonim tzadik.
In Brest we visited the places of the WWII - the Brest Fortress and the 5th fort. These memorable places left a deep mark not only in history, but also in children’s hearts. Also, we could not help visiting the monument to the 7th Prime Minister of Israel – Menachem Begin (Nobel laureate).
In a village called Lenin, group visited a unique Jewish cemetery, where the wooden matzevas (gravestones) are still preserved!
We enjoyed the beautiful and picturesque nature of the southern Belarus. We went with tourists to the unique natural landmark of Belarus - the Olmansky Bogs biosphere reserve. This is the largest bog complex in Europe.
During the trip, our travelers not only got acquainted with Belarus and its Jewish places, but also took partin in various events organized by madrichs.
A visit to Belarus inspired young tourists and laid the foundation for future fruitful work in their communities.
